Tire load range chart

Light-truck tires carry a load range letter, such as E. Each letter matches an older ply rating: load range E is a 10-ply rating, with a maximum pressure of 80 psi.

Pressures in psi from FMVSS No. 138 Table 1. A dash means Table 1 has no row for that letter.

A ply rating is not a count of the plies inside the tire. The sidewall shows the actual ply count on a separate line (FMVSS No. 139 S5.5(f)). The load index on the sidewall gives the maximum load; see the load index chart and load range and ply rating explained.

Maximum pressure and TPMS minimum

The maximum pressure is the most the tire can hold. Use the pressure on the vehicle placard, not this figure. The TPMS minimum is a floor for the tire pressure light. The light comes on at 25 percent below the placard pressure or at this minimum, whichever is higher. Try it in the tire pressure light calculator.
